Activate the ipMonitor license after evaluation
When you log in to ipMonitor and scan your network, the Discovery Engine pulls in all of your devices and makes some out-of-the-box decisions about what types of monitors to attach to each device. It bases its decisions by polling the device for management protocols (such as WMI and SNMP). After it scans those management protocols, it figures out what is running on the device and attaches monitors to those components.
To continue using ipMonitor after the evaluation ends, purchase and activate a license based on the number of monitors you need.
SolarWinds offers three license tiers for ipMonitor:

Contact our sales team to purchase an ipMonitor license. Use the online quote tool to estimate the purchase cost. After you complete the purchase, log in to the Customer Portal and activate the license.
You will need your SolarWinds Customer ID and password provided by SolarWinds Sales to access the Customer Portal. If you did not receive this information after your purchase, submit a ticket to Customer Support.
New and unlimited licenses
If a system is migrated and running as an evaluation, the 500-monitor limit is in effect, causing some monitors missing or inactive. This issue can occur when migrating a system with an unlimited license before the license has been applied. To resolve this issue, apply the license key.
If the maintenance expires on an unlimited license and you renew the license, it would be a limited license. If maintenance is renewed prior to expiring, the unlimited license is maintained.
Activate the license online
If your ipMonitor server is connected to the Internet, you can activate your ipMonitor license online.
- Verify that your ipMonitor server is connected to the Internet through your corporate firewall.
- Retrieve your license activation key from the Customer Portal.
- Locate your SolarWinds Customer ID.
- Log in to the Customer Portal.
- Click Licenses > Manage Licenses.
- Click the View drop-down menus and locate ipMonitor.
- Under License Activation Information, copy the Activation Key code to a text file.
- On your ipMonitor server, click Start > SolarWinds ipMonitor > Configure ipMonitor.
- Click Software Licensing.
- Click "Click here" to License ipMonitor.
- When prompted, click Yes to continue.
- Enter the new Activation Key and save your changes.
- Restart the ipMonitor Service.
Activate the license offline
If your ipMonitor server is not connected to the Internet, you can activate your ipMonitor license online using an alternate computer with an Internet connection.
- Using an alternate computer, log in to the Customer Portal.
- Retrieve your license.
- Retrieve your license activation key from the Customer Portal.
- Locate your SolarWinds Customer ID.
- Log in to the Customer Portal.
- Click Licenses > Manage Licenses.
- Click the View drop-down menus and locate ipMonitor.
- Under License Activation Information, copy the Activation Key code to a text file.
- Transfer the file to your ipMonitor server.
- Log in to your ipMonitor server.
- Click Start > SolarWinds ipMonitor > Configure ipMonitor.
- Click Software Licensing.
- Click "Click here" to License ipMonitor.
- When prompted, click Yes to continue.
- Enter the new Activation Key and save your changes.
- Restart the ipMonitor Service.
