Initiate server actions using Server/Workstation Control

The Server / Workstation Control tool allows you to initiate manual recovery actions outside of the alerting context. Using this tool, you can reboot servers and workstations running Windows Server, as well as services running on these machines.

Using the tool, you can perform the following tasks on a remote Windows server or workstation:

Access the tool

  1. Log in as an administrator.
  2. Click Configuration in the toolbar.
  3. Under Tools, click Server / Workstation Control.

Reboot a Windows server or workstation

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select Reboot Windows Servers and Workstations.

  2. Under Reboot Server, select a server name or primary IP address.

    1. Click Browse.
    2. In the Server Listing window, select the target server and click Continue.

      The result populates the Server Name / Primary IP Address field.

  3. (Optional) Select a credential to reboot the remote server.

    1. Click Select.
    2. Select a credential, and click Continue.

      The credential displays in the Credential for Rebooting Servers field.

  4. Click Reboot to reboot the remote server.

Restart Windows Services on a remote machine

This procedure restarts all Windows Services in the Windows Service Manager running on a remote machine.

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select Restart Windows Services.

  2. Under Restart Services, complete the fields.

    1. Click Browse, select the server name or IP address, and click Continue.
    2. (Optional) Next to Credential for Restarting Services, click Select, select the credential required to restart the services on the remote machine, and click Continue.
    3. Next to Services, click Select, select the services to restart, and click Continue.
  3.  Click Restart.

Stop Windows Services on a remote machine

This procedure stops all Windows Services in the Windows Service Manager running on a remote machine.

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select Stop Windows Services.

  2. Under Stop Services, complete the fields. complete the fields to stop the services on the remote server.

    1.  Click Browse, select the server name or IP address, and click Continue.
    2.  (Optional) Next to Credential for Stopping Services, click Select, select the credential required to restart the services on the remote machine, and click Continue.
    3. Next to Services, click Select, select the services to stop, and click Continue.
  3. Click Stop.
