Dameware 12.2.1 release notes
Release date: November 30, 2021
Dameware Remote Support includes a copy of Dameware Mini Remote Control, and at times, separate release notes may be published for each product. However, for Dameware 12.2.1 these release notes are the most recent for both products.
These release notes describe the new features, improvements, and fixed issues in Dameware 12.2.1. They also provide information about upgrades and describe workarounds for known issues.
Due to improved security standards, Dameware 12.2.1 is not compatible with agent versions earlier than Dameware 12.2. Agents must be removed and version 12.2.1 installed again through the application or re-installed via the agent installer.

Fixed issues in Dameware 12.2.1
Dameware 12.2.1 fixes the following issues.
Case Number | Description |
---|---|
00850464 |
BSAFE 4.1.5 no longer causes MRC to crash upon connection to remote PC on the newest CPUs in 32-bit mode. |
00852738 00848370 00840389 00836227 00836812 00839735 00855572 00855951 00897674 00896113 |
SolarWinds.Orion.MaintDateCheck.exe error has been corrected, and thus DRS/MRCx32-x64 installation issues have also been resolved. |
N/A | When apr_time_exp*() or apr_os_exp_time*() functions were invoked with an invalid month field value in Apache Portable Runtime APR 1.6.2 and prior, out of bounds memory was accessible if this value was converted to an apr_time_exp_t value, potentially revealing the contents of a different static heap value or resulting in program termination. This could have represented an information disclosure or denial of service vulnerability to applications that called these APR functions with unvalidated external input. However, this issue has been resolved. |
N/A | Dameware Server is now using HTTPS for all web traffic, and the two servers (Central Server and Internet Proxy role) properly respond to a Nessus scan as no longer failing HSTS compliance. |
Third-party vulnerabilities
The following third-party vulnerabilities are fixed in Dameware 12.2.1.
CVE-ID | Vulnerability Title | Description | Severity |
---|---|---|---|

CVE-2015-5237 | Out-of-bounds Write |
protobuf allowed remote authenticated attackers to cause a heap-based buffer overflow. |

New customer installation
For information about installing Dameware, see the Dameware Getting Started Guides.
Installer List
Due to improved security standards, Dameware 12.2.1 is not compatible with agent versions earlier than Dameware 12.2. Agents must be removed and version 12.2.1 installed again through the application or re-installed via the agent installer.
Stand-alone installation
The stand-alone installation requires each product to be individually activated on each computer. It is most useful for organizations with a small user base or with small or decentralized IT departments. These installers are available through your customer portal.
File name | Description |
---|---|
SolarWinds-Dameware-MRC-64bit-St.exe | Dameware Mini Remote Control (64-bit) v12.2.1 Installer, used for stand-alone mode deployment |
SolarWinds-Dameware-MRC-32bit-St.exe | Dameware Mini Remote Control (32-bit) v12.2.1 Installer, used for stand-alone mode deployment |
Centralized installation
The centralized installation requires you to install and deploy at least the Dameware Central Server. License activation occurs on the server level, and users authenticate to the Central Server from any centralized Mini Remote Control installation. Centralized mode is useful for organizations with a large user base, with large or centralized IT departments, or with multiple Dameware product licenses managed from a single point. You must request these installers from your SolarWinds sales representative.
If you use the Dameware Mobile application, Dameware Mobile for Android or iOS will not work with Dameware Remote Support 12.2.1. It is still possible to use Dameware Mobile for iOS version 11.4 with Dameware Remote Support versions 12.2 and later.
File name | Description |

SolarWinds-Dameware-MRC-64bit.exe | Dameware Mini Remote Control (64-bit) v12.2.1 Installer, used for centralized mode deployment |
SolarWinds-Dameware-MRC-32bit.exe | Dameware Mini Remote Control (32-bit) v12.2.1 Installer, used to deploy all server roles, the Administration Console, and Dameware Remote Support v12.2.1 in centralized mode |
