Analyzing network traffic and bandwidth is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and NTA are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Create a custom report for EF type of service in NTA

SolarWinds NPM 10.7 or later is required.

  1. Click Reports > All Reports.
  2. Click Manage Reports.
  3. Click Create New Report.
  4. Click Custom Table, and then click Select and Continue.
  5. Define what objects should be in the report. We want to report on traffic using a specified type of service, so we need to specify that we are interested in NetFlow History objects whose type of service is EF.
    1. Under Selection Method, select Dynamic Query Builder.
    2. Click Advanced Selector.
    3. In the I Want to Report On list, select NetFlow Flow History.
    4. Click Select Field.
    5. On the Add Column menu, under Available Columns, click NetFlow Type of Service.
    6. Under Database Column Name, click ToS Name.
    7. Click Add Column.
    8. On the Add Content menu, go to the ToS Name property list and select Is Equal To.
    9. Type EF in the last field on that line.
    10. Enter a Selection Name.
    11. Click Add to Layout.
  6. Define what columns you want to see in the report, how the items should be sorted, how many items you want to see, how the items should be grouped, or details for individual columns:
    1. Click Add Column.
    2. Add appropriate columns.

      • Add the Node Name column:
        1. Select Node in the Orion Object list.
        2. Under Available Columns, click Node.
        3. Under Database Column Name, select Node Name.
      • Add the Ingress Interface Name column:
        1. Select Interface in the Orion Object list.
        2. Under Available Columns, click Ingress Interface.
        3. Under Database Column Name, select Interface Name.
      • Add the ToS Name column:
        1. Select NetFlow Flow History in the Orion Object list.
        2. Under Available Columns, click NetFlow Type of Service.
        3. Under Database Column Name, select ToS Name.
      • Add the Bytes column:
        1. Select NetFlow Flow History in the Orion Object list.
        2. Under Available Columns, click NetFlow Flows History.
        3. Under Database Column Name, select Bytes.
      • Click Add Column.
    3. Define table sorting.

      1. Under Sort Results By, select Bytes - NetFlow Flow History.
      2. Define the sorting direction as Descending.
    4. Specify units and aggregation for bytes.

      1. Under the Bytes column, click Advanced.
      2. In the Add Display Settings list, select Data Unit.
      3. In the Units of Measurements list, select Bytes (1000). This defines the units shown on the report.
      4. In the Units in My Database list, select B.
      5. In the Data Aggregation list, select Sum.
    5. Use the Filter Number of Results section to limit the number of items shown by the report.
    6. Use the Group Results By list to set how individual items are grouped in the report.
    7. Click Preview Resource, and then click OK.
    8. Click Submit.
  7. Add the report to your SolarWinds Platform reports:
    1. Define the report layout:
      1. Enter a Title and Subtitle. You can also change the logo, page layout, and footer.
      2. Under Content, in the From list, select Last 24 Hours.
      3. Click Next.
    2. Check the preview, and click Next.
    3. Define the report properties, and click Next.
    4. If you want to create the report regularly, schedule the report, and click Next.
    5. Review the summary, and click Submit.
