Documentation forNetwork Configuration Manager
Managing network configurations is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Network Configuration Manager (NCM). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and NCM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Upload network config files manually

You can schedule a job to automate uploading changes to config files. You can also use the Upload Config widget or the Configuration Management page to manually upload config files.

For multi-node upload or download operations, the Simultaneous Downloads/Uploads setting can be used as a throttle. By default it is set to run 25 sessions simultaneously, but you can change this setting.

Upload a config to a single node

You can use the Upload Config widget to upload a configuration file you have previously downloaded from the same node. You can also write the uploaded configuration to NVRAM, essentially making it the startup configuration for the device.

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console with an account that has the WebUploader, Engineer, or Administrator role.
  2. Click My Dashboards > Network Configuration > Config Summary.
  3. Click a node in the NCM node list on the left.

The Node Details page displays information about that node.

  4. In the left pane, click Configs.

  5. In the Upload Config widget, select the config from the drop-down list.
  6. If you want to write the configuration to memory, select Write config to NVRAM after upload.
  7. If you need to reboot the device after the upload, select Reboot Device.
  8. Click Upload.

The transfer status is shown at the bottom of the widget. Click Transfer details to open the Transfer Status page.

Upload a config to one or more nodes

You can upload the same configuration file to one or more devices.

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console with an account that has the WebUploader, Engineer, or Administrator role.
  2. Click My Dashboards > Network Configuration > Configuration Management.
  3. If you do not have administrator privileges, you might not be able to see some devices.

  4. Select one or more devices, and click Upload.

    The Upload Config dialog opens.

  5. At the top of the left pane, verify that the correct devices are selected.

If you select devices and then navigate away from the Configuration Management page or filter the device list, NCM retains your previous selections. If the number of devices is higher than expected, close the Upload Config dialog, click Clear Selection, and repeat the previous steps.

  6. Under Select config to upload, locate the device on which the config is located.
  7. Expand the device and select the config you want to upload.
  8. To specify other options:
    1. Click Advanced.
    2. If you want to write the configuration to memory, select Write config to NVRAM after upload.
    3. If you need to reboot the device after the upload, select Reboot Device.
  9. Click Upload.

A confirmation message shows the number of devices you are uploading configs to.

  10. Verify that the number of devices is correct, and click Yes.
