WPM Player improvements
As described in How WPM works, the WPM Player is a Windows service that deploys, manages, and communicates with WPM worker processes to simulate end user experiences by playing back recorded transactions at scheduled intervals.
New customer installation
To install WPM, review system requirements and use the SolarWinds Orion Installer, which you can download from the SolarWinds Customer Portal. See the Orion Platform Products Installation and Upgrade Guide to learn how to prepare your environment and use the Orion Installer.
After installing WPM on the Orion server, you can deploy WPM Recorders and WPM Players to remote systems to get an accurate sampling of your websites and services from the viewpoint of your end users. See the WPM Getting Started Guide for details.
How to upgrade
If upgrading from WPM 3.0 or later, you can upgrade your entire Orion deployment from the My Orion Deployment page (Settings > My Orion Deployment). Downloading the Orion Installer is no longer necessary.
If you need to migrate WPM as part of your upgrade, see the Orion Platform Migration Guide.

Probe process-related playback issues related to recordings created in the new WPM Recorder no longer cause
|The WPM Playback Player Service on the Orion server clears logs with "legacy" in their names on remote systems that host WPM Players.|
Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 10 v.1607 or later on remote systems may overwrite WPM config files. If this occurs, backup (.BAK) files are created during WPM upgrades, available in
C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player.
WPM Recorders cannot count duration time on web pages with automated redirects. If steps recorded in the Deprecated WPM Recorder navigate to a web page with an automated redirect to another page, the time spent navigating to the first web page is not included in the overall duration time. Click here for a workaround.
WPM recordings that involve certificates may cause a WPM Player to crash on Windows Server 2016 Standard, Windows Server 2019 Standard, or Windows 10 v. 1607 or later. Click here for a workaround that adds the monitored page as a trusted site.
After upgrading from earlier WPM versions, unused SEUM-User accounts may remain and cause the WPM cache (
Webcachev01.dat) to consume a large amount of disk space. Click here for steps to resolve the issue.
