These release notes describe the new features, improvements, and fixed issues in VoIP and Network Quality Manager 4.2. They also provide information about upgrades and describe workarounds for known issues.

New features and improvements in VNQM 4.2

VNQM 4.2 offers new features and improvements compared to previous releases of VNQM.

VNQM 4.2 uses Orion Platform 2014.1.

Support for Avaya Communication and Media Servers

  • Call quality monitoring for Avaya
  • Advanced search for call records data
  • Alerting on MOS, jitter, and packet loss data, codec or termination codes

Supported devices

  • Support for the following Avaya Communication and Media Servers: S87xx, S88xx, and S83xx

    Note: Ports 50000 and 5005 must be available in order to access CDR and CQR data from Avaya Communications and Media Servers.

  • Support for Cisco CallManager version 10

Improved user interface

  • Easier search for phones and extensions on a call manager

  • Network Performance Monitor
    • Seeing real-time device network availability and throughput

    • VoIP and network oriented information on the same view

    • Monitoring of routing protocols

  • SolarWinds no longer supports Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.

Before you upgrade

You can upgrade to VoIP and Network Quality Manager 4.2 from version 4.1. For more information about the compatibility of SolarWinds Orion products for installation and upgrade, see this KB article.


Fixed issues

VNQM 4.2 fixes the following issues.

Case Number Description
519641, 534991 ANSI_PADDING database configuration errors during upgrade.
- Invalid characters are displayed in the MAC address field for some IP phones.
530104 IP SLA operations do not show up properly on the Manage operations page if a user has node level limitations assigned to the user account.
533457 No polling occurs against gateways.
- Queries are processed slowly on the Last N Events resource.
552902 Some devices are shown as unlicensed.
574130 Packet loss statistics are not displayed.
586839 Issue with PRI Gateway login credentials.
594386 The license count is calculated incorrectly.
615172 IP SLA operations are displayed with incorrect time stamps.
611067 The Add VoIP Gateway page does not load any devices.
- The Avaya poller job times out, and some stations are not polled correctly.
- The Add VoIP Gateway page does not load any devices.

Case Number Issue
- PIN authentication is not supported, and it must be disabled on the Avaya console.
- The number of CPUs is displayed as zero for Avaya call managers on the Node details resource.
- For Avaya call managers, only the call type is shown in the VoIP Call Signaling resource.
- Avaya survivable (high availability) mode is not supported.
- When managing operations, results grouped by status are not shown. Grouping results by other options works correctly.
