Log settings

Use the Log Settings window to select the events you want to include in your log files. You can monitor the following types of events:

Application events

Application events include startup and shutdown times, as well as any background task failures and warnings. These events are recorded in the ipm.log file.

Event Description
Record Debug Messages Records all messages generated by debugging activities.
Record ipMonitor Startup and Shut Down Records the date and time when ipMonitor was started and shut down.
Record Background Task Failures Records background task failures, such as bad file paths, invalid credentials, and so on.
Record Background Task Warnings Records events triggered by a background task.

Web events

Web events include client session events. These events are recorded in the ipm.log file.

Event Description
Record Access Attempts by Locked Out IP Addresses Records all attempts to access ipMonitor from a revoked IP address.
Record Invalid HTTP Requests Records all invalid HTTP requests.

Record Denied Access Requests

(User Rights, Failed Login, Improper Credential)

Records all denied access requests, such as insufficient user rights, improper credentials, and failed login attempts due to an incorrect name and password combination.
Record Attempts to Use Expired User Sessions Records all user attempts to continue using an expired session.
Record User Session Creation Records all user attempts to create a new ipMonitor session.
Record User Session Termination Records all user sessions that were terminated by the application
Record User Session Expiration Records all user sessions that expired due to inactivity.

Monitor events

Monitor events include user actions and alert triggers. These events are recorded in the ipm.log file.

Event Description
Record User Profile Records when a user accesses a profile.
Record Profile Being Skipped Records when a user skipped a profile.
Record Missing Alert Availability Records when an alert is not triggered due to missing alert availability.
Record Alert Usage Records when an alert is triggered.
Record Alert Being Skipped Records when an alert is skipped.

Alerting events

Alerting events include all events related to alerts. These events are recorded in the ipm.log file.

Event Description
Record Profile Use Records when a profile is used.
Record Profile is Being Skipped Records when a profile is skipped.
Record Missing Alert Availability Records when an alert cannot be triggered due to missing alert availability.
Record Alert Usage Records when an alert is triggered.
Record Alert Being Skipped Records when an alert is skipped.

SNMP events

SNMP events include SNMP Trap events. These events help you confirm that ipMonitor is receiving SNMP Traps when you configure a QA Trap monitor. These events are recorded in the snmptrap.log file.

Event Description
Record Retrieved SNMP Traps Not Expected by Any Configured Monitors Records when an unexpected SNMP Trap is received by a configured monitor.
Record Received SNMP Traps Expected by Configured Monitors Records when an expected SNMP Trap is received by a configured monitor.
Record the Contents of Any Received SNMP Trap in snmptrap.log Records when an SNMP Trap is received.
