New features and improvements in EOC

EOC 2020.2 offers new features and improvements compared to previous releases of EOC.

Custom Properties Management

In EOC 2020.2, you can now create custom properties for remote Orion sites from a centralized location. The new Custom Properties Manager allows users to add, delete, edit, assign values, and more, providing distributed custom property management from a centralized location.

To use CPM, SolarWinds strongly recommends upgrading your Orion Servers to 2020.2 for optimal performance and to properly operate using global custom properties.

CPM is not supported by Internet Explorer 11. SolarWinds recommends using the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

Integration with Orion Maps

With EOC 2020.2, you can now access and manage Orion Maps. Orion Maps, allows you to create, view, and customize maps from the EOC Enterprise Environment Summary page or visualize existing remote site maps in EOC, just like you would in a remote instance, including all entities and items from connected sites.

This integration also allows you add and configure the Orion Maps resource to any summary view and provide instant access to your maps.

Removal of SWIS v2 schema

As of this release, SolarWinds EOC no longer supports the SWIS v2 schema, and the SWIS v3 schema is used instead.

If you are using EOC 1.6 or earlier, you must first update to EOC 2.0 or later before upgrading federated instances to 2020.2. Versions of EOC 1.6 or earlier are not compatible with remote instances running 2020.2.

With the removal of the SWIS v2 schema, older versions of the Orion SCOM Management Pack are not compatible with Orion Platform 2020.2. You will need to upgrade SCOM to the latest version of the Orion SCOM Management Pack.

New features and improvements in Orion Platform

The Orion Platform 2020.2 offers new features and improvements compared to previous releases of the Orion Platform.

New customer installation

For information about installing Enterprise Operations Console, see the SolarWinds Orion Installer.

Before you upgrade!

As of the release of EOC 2.0, the Enterprise Operations Console has been rebuilt to run on the Orion Platform. If you are running EOC 2.0, you can upgrade to EOC 2020.2 using the same server.

Note: The organization of custom tiles in EOC 2.0 is not preserved when upgrading to 2020.2.

Due to this rebuild, users of versions prior to EOC 2.0 must install EOC to 2020.2 on a separate server. To begin using the new features, simply install EOC 2020.2 on a different server from your current EOC edition.

How to upgrade

If you are upgrading from EOC 2.0 or later:

  1. Use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to upgrade one or more Orion Platform products simultaneously.
  2. If your scalability engines (additional web servers and high availability servers) are able to communicate with the main server, use the centralized upgrade feature to upgrade the rest of your Orion deployment in parallel.

For details, see Install or upgrade Orion Platform products.

If you are upgrading from EOC 1.6 or earlier: use the legacy product upgrade guide to plan and then implement an upgrade to the current version of EOC.
