Elastic Block Store (EBS)

Overview

Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) provides persistent block storage volumes for use with Amazon EC2 instances in the AWS Cloud.

Setup

Installation

If you haven't already, first set up the AWS CloudWatch integration. No additional steps are needed for installation.

Configuration

On the AWS CloudWatch integration page, ensure that the EBS service is selected for metric collection.

Metrics

AppOptics supports the ability to filter by tag for EBS resources. For more information, please see our instructions on filtering metrics using tags.

VolumeReadBytes

(bytes)

Provides information on the input operations in a specified period of time.

VolumeWriteBytes

(bytes)

Provides information on the output operations in a specified period of time.

VolumeReadOps

(count)

The total number of input operations in a specified period of time.

VolumeWriteOps

(count)

The total number of output operations in a specified period of time.

VolumeTotalReadTime

(seconds)

The total number of seconds spent by input operations that completed in a specified period of time.

VolumeTotalWriteTime

(seconds)

The total number of seconds spent by output operations that completed in a specified period of time.

VolumeIdleTime

(seconds)

The total number of seconds in a specified period of time when no read or write operations were submitted.

VolumeQueueLength

(count)

TThe number of read and write operation requests waiting to be completed in a specified period of time.

VolumeThroughputPercentage

(percent)

Used with Provisioned IOPS SSD volumes only. The percentage of I/O operations per second (IOPS) delivered of the total IOPS provisioned for an Amazon EBS volume.

VolumeConsumedReadWriteOps

(count)

Used with Provisioned IOPS SSD volumes only. The total amount of read and write operations (normalized to 256K capacity units) consumed in a specified period of time.

BurstBalance

(percent)

Used with General Purpose SSD (gp2), Throughput Optimized HDD (st1) and Cold HDD (sc1) volumes only. Provides information about the percentage of I/O credits (for gp2) or throughput credits (for st1 and sc1) remaining in the burst bucket.
