New customer installation
To install WPM, review system requirements and use the SolarWinds Orion Installer, which you can download from the SolarWinds Customer Portal. See the Orion Platform Products Installation and Upgrade Guide to learn how to prepare your environment and use the Orion Installer.
After installing WPM on the Orion server, you can deploy WPM Recorders and WPM Players to remote systems to get an accurate sampling of your websites and services from the viewpoint of your end users. See the WPM Getting Started Guide for details.
How to upgrade
Use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to upgrade your entire Orion deployment, including all Orion Platform products and any scalability engines.
If upgrading from WPM 3.0 or later, you can upgrade your entire Orion deployment from the My Orion Deployment page (Settings > My Orion Deployment). Downloading the Orion Installer is no longer necessary.
|Code was updated to support querying with custom SWQL filters in the Top XX Transactions by Duration widget, an earlier issue described here.|
|In WPM 2.2.3 and earlier, you could click and hold Ctrl + Shift to capture all mouse actions in mouseover mode. That functionality was available in WPM 3.0 by clicking and holding Ctrl + ~. Code was updated in WPM 2019.4 to limit the amount of actions created. SolarWinds recommends enabling mouseover mode only when hovering over items you want to capture.|
Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 10 v.1607 or later on remote systems may overwrite WPM config files. If this occurs, backup (.BAK) files are created during WPM upgrades, available in
C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player.
Authentication in recordings: The Deprecated WPM Recorder supports basic and Microsoft NT LAN Manager (NTLM) authentication; the new WPM Recorder supports basic authentication only. For recordings created in the new WPM Recorder introduced in WPM 3.0, WPM reads the User Name and Password from the URL but does not send it to the Orion server for authentication. Client certificates cannot be checked and unencrypted passwords may appear in transactions. See Best practices for creating recordings for authentication-related tips.
Recordings played back on the WPM Player have a smaller screen size than when created in the WPM Recorder: Recordings created in WPM 2.2.3 and earlier don’t store original screen sizes. For a workaround, click here.
WPM Recorders cannot count duration time on web pages with automated redirects: If a transaction recorded in the Deprecated WPM Recorder involves navigating to a web page that has an automatic redirect to another web page, the time spent navigating to the first web page is not included in the overall duration time. Click here for a workaround.
WPM recordings that involve certificates may cause a WPM Player to crash on Windows Server 2016 Standard, Windows Server 2019 Standard, or Windows 10 v. 1607 or later: Click here for a workaround that adds the monitored page as a trusted site in the browser.
After upgrading from earlier WPM versions, unused SEUM-User accounts may remain and cause the WPM cache (
Webcachev01.dat) to consume a large amount of disk space. Click here for steps to resolve the issue.
The ability to add cloud-based transaction locations from the Manage Transaction Locations page was removed from the product.
