Monitor Linux hardware, software, and files

Monitor changes to server hardware and software, and select specific files you want to watch for changes.

To monitor your Linux environment, see this page for instructions on how to configure SNMP for agents deployed by SCM. (These instructions apply to SAM, SCM, and other products.) Once installed, it should auto-configure for you.

Execute Linux scripts (bash, python, or others)

Build and deploy Linux scripts, and monitor the output for changes.

Use new out-of-the-box Linux profiles

Take advantage of ready-to-use Linux profiles for monitoring hardware, software, packages, network configuration, security, and more.

Test profile elements before deploying them to servers

Easily test your elements before deploying them. See the output of your scripts, the list of files that will be returned, or the registry settings you will capture.

For structured content (XML, JSON), see the changes that matter (the values), while completely ignoring changes to the structure (such as spaces, returns, and order).

New customer installation

For information about installing SCM, review system requirements and use the SolarWinds Orion Installer, which you can download from the SolarWinds Customer Portal. After installation, use the SCM Getting Started Guide and the SCM Administrator Guide to learn about configuring and using SCM.

How to upgrade

With SCM 1.2 and later, you can upgrade your entire Orion deployment, including the main server and all Orion Platform products, from the My Orion Deployment page. Downloading the Orion Installer for future upgrades is no longer necessary.

If you are upgrading from SCM versions earlier than SCM 1.2, use the following procedure:
  1. Use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to simultaneously upgrade one or more Orion Platform products on your main Orion server.
  2. If your scalability engines (additional polling engines, additional web servers, and high availability servers) are able to communicate with the main server, use the centralized upgrade feature to upgrade the rest of your Orion deployment in parallel. For details, see Install or upgrade Orion Platform products.

Error displaying the detail of Server Configuration changes in PerfStack
Issue: In Perfstack, the details of the last change in Data Explorer does not display.
Resolution/Work-around: None

Content incorrectly displayed on the Content Comparison page
Issue: Content Comparison page may display incorrect content after selecting a specific date or version.
Resolution/Work-around: None

Hardware info changes in the Linux Essentials profile are noisy on physical Linux servers
Issue: CPU MHz value in Hardware Info changes fairly often and may be considered too noisy (and may cause baseline mismatches). It is probably related to the node being a physical box with BIOS/CPU configured to change frequency when being idle/used. This behavior has not been observed on virtual machines.
Resolution/Work-around: None

SolarWinds.Agent.SCM.plugin process hangs on 32-bit Linux machines if agent service is ended
Issue: If agent service is ended, a new agent service is started, and a new SCM plugin process is started, but SolarWinds.Agent.SCM.plugin process hangs rather than ending on 32-bit Linux machines.
Resolution/Work-around: None
