New features and improvements in SCM

SCM 1.1 offers new features and improvements compared to previous releases of SCM.

'Who made the change' detection

SCM now gives you visibility into who made changes to files and registry entries on Windows servers. This capability decreases the amount of time needed to investigate and resolve issues, and it improves team accountability.

Near real-time change detection

SCM 1.1 tracks changes in near real time. It displays information about each change that occurs as it happens, rather than an aggregate of view of multiple changes at specific polling intervals. More timely and granular data provides you with a more accurate picture of your server configurations.

PowerShell script support

You can define custom PowerShell scripts in SCM to capture a wide range of different outputs according to your business needs. Create an SCM profile with the PowerShell element and assign it to desired nodes. SCM then collects the output of those scripts and alerts you when it changes so that you can compare data outputs over time. This capability eliminates the need for manual data analysis and ensures that your scripts are consistent across your environment.

Ability to set or reset baselines for all nodes at once

To save you time and minimize the need for adjustments to SCM, you can now set the baseline for all nodes at the same time. This feature can facilitate the roll-out of SCM across a large environment or help you to make bulk changes when the need arises.

How to upgrade

If you are upgrading from SCM 1.0 or later, use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to upgrade one or more Orion Platform products simultaneously.

Fixed issues

SCM 1.1 fixes the following issues.

Case Number Description
N/A 'Server configuration has changed' and 'Server configuration differs from baseline' alerts are not triggered in SCM after profiles are unassigned and then re-assigned to the same node.
N/A SCM is set up to monitor for changes. User creates a PerfStack view to track SCM changes over time. When the PerfStack profile is added as a resource in a summary view, it is missing the SCM-specific charts.

Fixed issues in Orion Platform 2018.4

SCM runs on SolarWinds Orion Platform 2018.4. For information on features and improvements, and to learn more about additional changes not listed here that affect all Orion Platform products, see the Orion Platform 2018.4 release notes.
