ETS 2020.2 release notes

These release notes describe improvements in the Engineer's Toolset 2020.2 release.

Improvements in ETS

This release is a compatibility update for Engineer's Toolset for the Web and includes new Orion Platform features and improvements from the Orion Platform 2020.2 release. This release also includes a security update for Engineer's Toolset for Desktop.

Compatibility improved with newer versions of the Orion Platform

Engineer's Toolset for Web is part of the Orion Platform and can be used alongside other Orion Platform products. This release improves compatibility with newer versions of the Orion Platform.

Security improvements and fixes for Engineer's Toolset for Desktop

Engineer's Toolset for Desktop 2020.2 includes security updates. See Fixed issues below for details.


New customer installation

For information about installing Engineer's Toolset, see the ETS Installation Guide. After installation, use the ETS Getting Started Guide to get started fast.

How to upgrade

To upgrade Engineer's Toolset for the Web to 2020.2, use the SolarWinds Orion Installer.

To upgrade Engineer's Toolset for Desktop to 2020.2, download the latest ETS for Desktop installer from the Customer Portal and reinstall ETS for Desktop by following the steps in Downloading and installing Engineer's Toolset for Desktop.

Fixed issues

Engineer's Toolset for Desktop 2020.2 fixes the following issues:

00454990, 00490189 Engineer's Toolset for Desktop 2020.2 now includes the latest release of SolarWinds SFTP/SCP server which fixes a security issue related to Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) encryption.
00416314 Engineer's Toolset for Desktop now uses SSH2 by default.
00186138, 00292183, 00293289, 00321611, 00331260 SolarWinds SFTP/SCP included with Engineer's Toolset for Desktop 2020.2 no longer crashes while transfering large files.

Known issues

FIPS disabled for Orion products after upgrading ETS for the Web and other Orion products to 2020.2
Issue: Upgrading Orion products to 2020.2 while ETS for the Web is installed on the Orion server disables FIPS mode for installed Orion products.
Work-around: Use the FIPS Manager to manually re-enable FIPS for your Orion products after completing the upgrade to 2020.2.
